Canon just to announced four new inkjet printers to the imagePROGRAF PRO Series product line; the11- color plus Chroma Optimizer 44-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and 24-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 for unsurpassed photo print quality, as well as the 8-color 60-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-6000S and 44-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-4000S, which are designed to economically create eye-catching posters and vivid displays.
Ideal for professional photography and fine art reproductions, the imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and PRO-2000 printers are designed to exceed expectations for image quality, color consistency and productivity. Empowered by a unique Canon-to-Canon workflow that links images captured with an EOS Digital Camera and printed with an imagePROGRAF PRO Series printer, known as Crystal-fidelity, these printers can produce spectacular large-format output that maintain all of the color, texture, contrast, and emotion captured in the original image. The 44” wide PRO-4000 and 24” wide PRO-2000 large-format
printing systems feature new technologies and innovations that provide the foundation for an ultra-high quality photography imaging solution that is available only from Canon!
The Canon imagePROGRAF 8-color S-Series models have been specially designed for high volume graphic arts print service providers that need to maximize productivity and manage color across a fleet of printers across multiple locations. These printers address the unique needs of print service providers and in-plant (CRD) operations competing in the graphic arts production printing market segment. Built for high-speed printing with high quality imaging, and extraordinary productivity, these printers have the same core technology as the 11-color models including the 12 channel print head. By doubling the channels used by 4 colors, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Matte Black, these printers are able to achieve fast print speeds without sacrificing quality.
The LUCIA PRO ink system has an all new ink formulation with a new microencapsulation process that allows the inks to be even more densely laid down on the media, which increases the smoothness of the printed surface. This process reduces scattered light from the paper surface, producing prints with enhanced color reproduction, vivid colors and image clarity.
The 11-color series adds a unique transparent ink called Chroma Optimizer, used when printing on glossy paper or semi-gloss paper. The “clear coat” acts as an accelerator to the ink creating an increased color gamut, reduced bronzing, improved scratch resistance, greater image clarity, and gloss uniformity.
The newly developed print head is 1.28 inch wide, has a 3-chip configuration with four colors per chip, and ejects ink through 12 channels from a total of 18,432 nozzles which fire over 32 million droplets per second. This print head contains nine temperature sensors per chip for a total of 27 temperature sensors. This enables more detailed ejection control by managing the temperature for each color row, which results in consistent, high-speed continuous ink ejection and suppresses density variance and color unevenness. Ink ejection conditions are checked by sensors, and if a clog is detected, another nozzle will automatically provide backup.
The new L-COA PRO high-speed image processing engine has a new multi-core ASIC that was developed to process high resolution, high volume data at fast speeds. Canon’s research and development group created a color conversion system that uses image processing algorithms to generate the ideal ink combinations. Powered by 3 chips, the L-COA PRO processor allows these new printers to achieve faster printing speeds at a higher print quality than the current imagePROGRAF 12- and 8-color series.
The printers also feature a redesigned high-precision mechanical platform, providing a uniform, rigid frame that reduces vibrations during printing and provides precise ink ejection. This unibody design also contributes to the new compact size of the PRO Series printers. The new 60-inch printers can effectively fit into the same space a competitor’s 42-inch can.
Color output is optimized by Canon’s built-in Color Density Sensor and calibration system. This capability is vitally important to professional photographers and artists because it means these printers can reproduce colors reliably and consistently over time and multiple PRO Series devices. Canon’s color calibration system is simpler and easier to use than the competition. Canon’s built-in Color Density Sensor enables calibration to be completed in just 10 minutes, as the results from one session are applied automatically to all Canon media types,in all modes.
The optional Multifunction Roll System is a versatile media handling system that enables either two rolls of media to be loaded at the same time, or for the unit to be configured as a bi-directional media take-up unit. When used as a second media roll, the Multifunction Roll System can be used to load glossy media on one roll and fine art media in the other and seamlessly print to both without the user ever needing to manually switch the media. The Multifunction Roll System will intelligently send the job to the correct media, automating the process and providing increased ease of use.
Canon’s innovative media delivery system enables a roll of media to be loaded into the printer without directly touching the media with your hands. Simply set the media in the roll holder and lightly rotate the flange to enable the leading edge of the media to be automatically fed. This avoids potential damage or creasing of the media upon loading.
PDF and JPEG files stored in a USB drive can be directly printed by connecting the USB drive to the USB port located on the front of the printer. This enables fast and easy printing without using a computer. A preview image of the selected file can be displayed on the new 3.5-inch color touchscreen panel. This makes it possible to check the file contents before actually printing, which prevents file selection and other mistakes. The Wi-Fi capability makes it easy to connect to wireless LAN in office environments. This combination of connectivity options simplify on-site installation and increase the user’s degree of freedom when operating the printer.
Further enhancing the user experience with these new imagePROGRAF PRO printers is the intuitive software solution of Print Studio Pro. With a focus on quality and ease of use, Print Studio Pro is a plugin for Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe Lightroom®, Adobe Photoshop Elements® and Canon Digital Photo Professional. This software will help to dramatically improve fine details and gradations for a highly accurate reproduction of the original captured image and easily exports files directly to the printer. Quick Utility Toolbox provides users with a portal to launch and control all Canon software from one central interface. The Accounting Manager utility will help users keep track of consumable costs such as ink and media, helping to determine their overall printing expenses. Also included is Device Management Console, an administrative tool which provides users with the means to manage up to 50 imagePROGRAF PRO Series printers by monitoring activity and printer information such as error messages and the execution status of calibrations.
Another innovation that has been incorporated into these printers is a Multi- positional basket.
The basket can be configured to be:
This gives the user choices on how their prints will be outputted based on the type and quantity of prints they are producing.
To give users more flexibility in their consumable purchases, the ink tanks for these new printers are available in three sizes of 700 ml, 330 ml, and 160 ml. The PRO Series keeps the hot swap ink tanks functionality utilized in previous models, allowing for uninterrupted printing during ink tank replacement. If an ink tank runs out of ink, the printers use the ink in the reserve sub-ink tanks. Not only does this prevent downtime in continuous printing, it makes it easy to use all ink in the tanks, which can help cut costs.
