Four new Professional Photo Printers which offer great possibility!!

November

| Depending on what you are planning to do with your printer, different factors are important in your choice of a high quality professional photo printer.
If you are a professional photographer with substantial profit margins you might be more looking at quality, weight and drivers availability, where as if you are a retail outlet you might be more interested in price per print, speed and multiple image sizes. In this newsletter, we are going to try to give you a better idea of the newest printers available to you today:

The dye sublimation technology, also call
D2T2 or photo thermal printing offers true photographic quality prints. When compared to other digital printing technologies, there is no comparison. The thermal printers and media use a totally dry process and in-printer lamination that minimize time delays, hassles and cost of post-lamination. You get traditional print quality: vibrant color and smooth continuous tones with great shadow and highlight details. Those thermal prints also have the stability of traditional photographic prints.
There is now a wide selection on the market when it comes to Digital Professional Photo Printers. We have selected 4 companies which offer high quality photo printers at competitive prices.
The 4 printers we are looking at today are the
Kodak 6850, The
Mitsubishi CP-9550DW, the
Sony UP-DR150 and the
ICI Olmec OP610. |
| |
|
| |
|
|
|
Technology and Quality:
All four machines use dye sublimation thermal transfer and offer a resolution between 300 dpi to 346 dpi (for the
Mitsubishi CP9550DW). All 4 printers offer superb print quality, our test on all four machines show photo lab quality without any modification or enhancement to the image file.
|
|
Print sizes:
While the Mitsubishi, ICI-Olmec and the Sony
offer all 4 standard formats: 3.5”x5”, 4”x6”, 5”x7” and 6”x8” (and
6”x9” instead of 6"x8"
for Mitsubishi), the
Kodak 6850 printer will print 4’x6” and 6’x8”,
the 5”x7” format is possible with borders, if you want to
print 5”x7” borderless, you will need to purchase the 5”x7”
Conversion Kit. Based on our information from Kodak this
operation is permanent, and it is not recommended to switch
back and forth between printing 4x6/6x8 prints and 5x7
borderless prints because changing back
will violate the printer warranty. Additionally, there will be
some reduced image quality on the outside edges of the 6-inch
prints. We recommend that you print either 5x7 borderless
prints or 4x6/6x8 prints on the
Kodak Photo Printer 6850 printer and not switch
back and forth between 5x7 or 4x6/6x8 formats. |

Unique features:
The Olmec
OP610 offers a very nice and unique feature, a new patented business card media that creates great opportunities for stores which can, for the first time, offer customers high quality photo business cards directly from their premises at a fraction of the time, capital investment and set up cost of other printing technologies. The
Mitsubishi CP9550DW offers a unique Postcard paper with features a postcard back print to it. The paper has the regular photographic feackness and come in a roll as well. The photographer can easily offer to his customers a Photo-postcard without having to glue or mount it on an other support.
|
Print capacity:
Kodak offers the highest print capacity with 750 4”x6” print per roll and 375 5”x7” or 6”x9”;the Mitsubishi 9550 is second with a capacity of 600 prints in 4”x6” , 350 prints in 5”x7”, and 270 in 6”x9”; the
Sony 150 does 550 prints on a roll in 4”x6”, 335 prints in 5”x7” and 295 prints in 6”x8”, finally the Olmec has a capacity of 470 prints in 4”x6”, 270 in 5”x7” and 210 in 6”x9”. |
